Glossary term
Air Carrier
An airline that carries goods for hire, under its own air waybill and operating licence.
An airline transporting cargo for reward. The carrier issues the air waybill and takes on the carriage obligations recorded in it.
Most air cargo is booked through a freight forwarder rather than directly with the carrier, which is why a shipper often holds a house air waybill from the forwarder rather than the carrier’s own master document.
