India Revises Tariff Values for Edible Oils, Gold, Silver, Brass Scrap and Areca Nuts from 16 October

What changed

India's Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued Notification No. 86/2026-Customs (N.T.), S.O. 5658(E), on 15 October 2026. It replaces Tables 1 to 3 of Notification No. 36/2001-Customs (N.T.) and states: "This notification shall come into force with effect from the 16th day of October, 2026."

New tariff values

• Crude palm oil: USD 1223 per metric tonne; RBD palm oil: 1234; other palm oil: 1229
• Crude palmolein: 1242; RBD palmolein: 1245; other palmolein: 1244
• Crude soya bean oil: 1287; brass scrap (all grades): 8247
• Gold (specified forms): USD 1316 per 10 grams; silver (specified forms): USD 1907 per kilogram
• Areca nuts: USD 10433 per metric ton

Under the previous Notification No. 80/2026-Customs (N.T.), in force from 1 October 2026, the values were USD 1229 for crude palm oil, 1280 for crude soya bean oil, 8149 for brass scrap, USD 1339 per 10 grams for gold, USD 1965 per kilogram for silver and USD 11574 for areca nuts.

Who it affects

Importers of edible oils, bullion, brass scrap and areca nuts into India. Tariff values fixed under section 14(2) of the Customs Act, 1962 are used to calculate customs duty on these goods.

What exporters and importers should do

• Use the new values for bills of entry from 16 October 2026.
• Check the gold and silver entries carefully: separate rows apply to goods claiming entries 194 and 195 of Notification No. 45/2025-Customs, and to bars, coins and findings other than imports through post, courier or baggage.
• Check for later notifications, as CBIC revises these values periodically.
