UK to suspend tariffs on 101 foods, kerosene and fertilisers to ease living costs
The UK's second cost-of-living package removes tariffs on many foods, kerosene and fertilisers for a set time, though no start date is given yet.

Importers bringing food, kerosene or fertiliser into the UK could soon pay no tariff on many of these goods. The UK government confirmed the cuts on 28 October 2026 to ease living costs.
Tariffs on 101 agri-food products will be suspended until 31 December 2028. Suspended means removed for a set time, not scrapped for good. The list covers goods "including products such as aubergines, baked beans and chocolate."
Kerosene tariffs will also be suspended until 31 December 2028, to support heating oil supply chains. Tariffs on fertiliser products will be suspended until 31 December 2027. The aim there is lower costs for farmers and steadier supply.
This is the second cost-of-living package. The first was announced in April 2026. It follows a call for input that ran from 27 May to 24 June 2026 and drew 103 responses.
Most respondents backed the plan. Some raised concerns about effects on UK producers, developing countries, health and the environment.
The outcome page does not give a start date. It does not list product codes either. The goods are in a separate final list file linked from the page. Until the start date is confirmed, keep paying the duty that applies today.
Who is affected? UK importers of the listed foods, kerosene and fertilisers, and the households and farmers who buy them.
What to check
- Is your product on the government's final list of goods?
- Has a start date been published yet?
- Which end date applies: 2027 for fertilisers, or 2028?
