Transshipment

Transferring cargo from one vessel or vehicle to another during a journey.

Moving cargo between conveyances en route, typically at a hub port where a deep-sea service connects with a feeder.

It adds handling, time and risk, and it has consequences beyond operations. Some letters of credit prohibit it; and where goods pass through a third country, direct-transport rules in a trade agreement can put a preference claim at risk unless the goods stayed under customs control.
