Advanced shipment notice
A message sent ahead of a delivery telling the receiver what is coming, in what packaging, and when.
An electronic message sent before goods arrive, listing what is in the shipment, how it is packed and when it is expected. Usually exchanged as EDI.
Its purpose is to let the receiving warehouse plan labour and dock time rather than discovering the contents when the doors open. Often abbreviated ASN.
