Electronic data interchange
The structured exchange of business documents between computer systems in an agreed format.
The exchange of trade documents - orders, invoices, manifests, status messages - between systems in a standard structured format, without re-keying. EDIFACT and ANSI X12 are the long-established standards; newer integrations often use APIs to the same end.
