Combined Transport
Carriage using more than one mode under a single contract and a single document.
Movement by two or more modes - road and sea, rail and road - under one contract, covered by one transport document from origin to destination.
Its significance is liability: one carrier is answerable for the whole journey, so a shipper need not identify which leg the loss occurred on. Also called multimodal or intermodal transport, though the terms carry slightly different emphases.
